According to GamesRadar+, GTA 6 will let you break up Jason and Lucia if you want to, and the outlet credits that freedom to an unexpected source: Arthur Morgan, the lead of Red Dead Redemption 2.

With launch less than three weeks away, anything about how the game's central duo works is drawing huge interest. Ever since the first trailer, Rockstar has pitched GTA 6 as the story of two criminals who rely on each other in the state of Leonida. So the idea that their relationship isn't locked in changes how a lot of fans picture the game.

What GamesRadar+ is saying

The GamesRadar+ piece argues that Jason and Lucia's relationship doesn't have to follow a single path and can end in a breakup. The outlet frames it with a simple question: "But what if these characters want something else?"

The Red Dead Redemption 2 comparison isn't random. That game, also from Rockstar, gave players room to shape how Arthur Morgan came across and how he dealt with the people around him. GamesRadar+ sees GTA 6 building on that approach: less of a fixed script and more space for each player to create their own version of the story.

What we still don't know

Based on what's available, it isn't clear how a breakup is triggered, when in the story it can happen, or how it would affect missions or the ending. We also don't know whether it's a single big decision or the result of smaller choices made across the campaign. For now, treat it as what it is: a report from a major gaming outlet, until we see how it plays out in the final game.

What it means if you're waiting for GTA 6

If it holds up, GTA 6 would be the entry in the series where relationships between protagonists matter most. Previous games mostly kept the story on a set track, with maybe one major choice near the end. A central couple that can split up points to a more open narrative and more reasons to replay the campaign.

It also raises questions the community is already debating: will there be multiple endings depending on how the relationship ends, will it change the heists the pair pull off together, and will it affect how you switch between the two characters?

GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It won't be long before we find out how far that freedom really goes. Until then, we'll keep tracking every new detail about Jason and Lucia.
